Would you like to work on an AAUW-related public access cable TV show?
On the Go with AAUW, a project of the Alexandria Branch, is looking for AAUW members
who would like to learn how to operate a studio camera or conduct an interview on the show.
On the Go with AAUW is a monthly public access cable TV show produced at Fairfax Public
Access (FPA) focusing on issues of interest to AAUW and AAUW members – education,
community, the arts, women’s issues, and international affairs. We meet the needs of the
community by featuring local individuals and organizations that contribute to the community
in these areas.
Our main goals are to:
• Bring visibility to AAUW and its issues
• Give AAUW members and other women an opportunity to learn and practice
communication skills as guests and hosts on the show or as crew members helping
to produce the show
• Inform, educate, and entertain our audience
On the Go with AAUW is shown on Channel 10, a public access channel in Fairfax County.
Each month our show is aired three times:
• 2nd Sunday of the month at 4:00 PM
• 2nd Thursday at 9:30 PM
• 2nd Monday at 12:30 AM
Channel 10 is carried by Comcast in Reston; Cox Communications in Falls Church and
Fairfax County; and Verizon FIOS in west Arlington County, Falls Church, Fairfax County,
Loudoun County, Leesburg, Prince William County, Stafford County, and Fredericksburg.
Alexandria Branch member Martha Mendenhall started the show in 1991, and we are one of
the longest running shows at FPA. If you are interested and would like to observe how a
show is taped, contact Alexandria Branch member Ruth Bennett at rmbenet@aol.com.
Here’s a list of On the Go Shows since we started producing them in 1991. For shows
available on YouTube, go to YouTube and search for our shows using the search box. You
can also become a subscriber and automatically be notified when a new show is put on
YouTube.
The project has been ongoing since 1957 with the support of the Special Interest Group: Educational TV.
Hope you will come out and help us – we learn a lot and have a lot of fun!
